Ken Kempner

I started Nordic skiing in 1970, sliding along the hiking trails of Banff National Park.  I joined VISAS in 2001 and instructed in both Nordic and Al[pine skiing for several years before cutting back to just Alpine.  Although I enjoy instructing in Alpine I prefer sliding through the quiet winter majesty of the mountains on cross-country skis.  I am also drawn by the low environmental impact of Nordic skiing.

Before I retired in 2005 (yes, that long ago) I was a Vocational rehabilitation Consultant.

Elaine Kerr

Elaine has enjoyed recreational Nordic and back country skiing since a young age. For the past two years, she has volunteered with the Strathcona Nordic Ski School Program, and brushed up her skiing and coaching skills with the master’s course.

Off the snow Elaine enjoys year-round ‘wild swimming’ and anything in or on the water and mountains. She has been an optometrist in the Comox Valley and Campbell River for over 30 years, but is retiring so she has more time to volunteer!

This year Elaine will be acting as co-ordinator between the VISAS program and the Strathcona Nordic Ski School Program.

She looks forward to getting out on the snow again!
